"Gaza is the world’s largest open-air prison!” How many times have we heard this nonsense shouted from the rooftops of X and parroted by anti-Israel activists and their media buddies? It’s the go-to propaganda line designed to make Israel look like the cruel jailer of helpless victims.
Yet, after October 7, when Hamas massacred 1,400 Israelis—beheading babies, raping women, and burning entire families alive—those same voices magically changed their tune. Suddenly, Gaza wasn’t a prison anymore. It was a paradise! Lush beaches, vibrant markets, and luxurious homes were plastered all over social media. “Look at what Israel destroyed!” they cried, as if Gaza had been some Mediterranean dreamland.

Wait a second. Wasn't Gaza supposed to be an "open prison"? Which is it? Was it a hellhole or a hidden utopia? You can’t have it both ways. Let’s call these liars out for what they are: hypocrites spreading misinformation to serve their agenda. They don't care about the truth. They care about making Israel the villain.
The Reality Check
Let’s get the facts straight. Since Israel left Gaza in 2005—yes, left completely—Hamas has turned it into a terrorist stronghold. Israel evacuated all its civilians, demolished its settlements, and handed Gaza over to the Palestinians. What happened next? Did Gaza become a beacon of peace and prosperity? Nope. Hamas seized control in a violent coup in 2007, murdering fellow Palestinians in the streets. Since then, they’ve spent billions of dollars on rockets, terror tunnels, and weapons instead of building hospitals, schools, and infrastructure.

The "open prison" narrative conveniently ignores Hamas's rule. Gaza isn't suffering because of Israel. Gaza is suffering because its leadership prioritizes jihad over the well-being of its people. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 29:2, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked rule, the people mourn." In Gaza, the wicked rule.
Israel has strict security measures around Gaza (what the woke activists like to call a "blockade") for one reason: to prevent Hamas from smuggling in weapons used to attack Israeli civilians. Despite these necessary precautions, Gaza still receives humanitarian aid, electricity, and essential goods regularly. Meanwhile, Hamas gives its people nothing but fear, oppression, and terror.
But the point is, when you see those pre-war videos of Gaza’s markets filled with fresh produce, amusement parks, and high-rise apartments, it becomes painfully obvious that this “open-air prison” narrative was always a lie. Gazans had access to medical care in Israel, trade with Egypt, and enough resources to build resorts and beachfront cafes. Not exactly the image of a prison, is it?

The Hypocrisy of the Anti-Israel Crowd
Before the war, the activists loved to portray Gaza as a dystopian nightmare. "They have no food! No electricity! No hope!" they'd scream. But when the war began and Hamas’s atrocities were exposed, those same people pivoted. They started sharing photos of idyllic pre-war Gaza: children playing on golden beaches, families enjoying vibrant markets, and couples dining at waterfront cafes. Suddenly, Gaza was “a beautiful place” that Israel had "destroyed."
Do these people think we’re stupid? Either Gaza was a miserable prison, or it was a thriving society. Which one is it?
And let's be clear—Israel didn't destroy Gaza. Hamas did. They use human shields, turning hospitals, schools, and mosques into military command centers. Israel does everything it can to minimize civilian casualties, even dropping leaflets and making phone calls to warn civilians before airstrikes. In contrast, Hamas deliberately fires rockets from densely populated areas, hoping for civilian deaths to fuel their propaganda machine. They see dead Palestinians as political currency. It’s disgusting, but it’s the truth.
Who Are the Real Prisoners?
The real prisoners here aren’t the people of Gaza. They’re prisoners of Hamas, a regime that doesn’t value human life—neither Jewish nor Palestinian. Hamas teaches children to hate from birth. They glorify martyrdom and encourage kids to strap on suicide belts. These children never stood a chance at a better future because Hamas stole it from them.
Meanwhile, Hamas leaders live in luxury in Qatar, sipping lattes in five-star hotels while their people starve and suffer. And the so-called "human rights activists" never criticize them. They never ask where all the foreign aid money went. Instead, they blame Israel for everything, as if Hamas is just some passive bystander. The double standards are mind-blowing.
Imagine if Mexico was run by a drug cartel that launched thousands of rockets at U.S. cities. How long would America tolerate it? Would Americans call for restraint, or would they demand that the cartel be wiped off the face of the earth? But when Israel defends itself, it’s condemned. The hypocrisy is sickening.

The Hope for Gaza
Here’s the sad truth: Gaza could have been a success story. It has natural beauty, a prime location on the Mediterranean, and a young, energetic population. If Hamas cared about its people, they could have transformed Gaza into a thriving hub of innovation and trade. Israel was even willing to help—there were plans for joint industrial zones and infrastructure projects. But Hamas chose terrorism. And now, the people of Gaza are paying the price.
Still, there is hope. The Bible says in Isaiah 61:3 that God can give us "beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness." One day, Gaza can be rebuilt—if it is freed from the grip of Hamas and starts educating its children for peace with their neighbors. But that will only happen if the world stops enabling the lies and starts holding Hamas accountable.
The first step is truth. Stop calling Gaza an open prison. Stop spreading propaganda that demonizes Israel while giving Hamas a free pass. The world needs to understand that peace can only come when evil is defeated. And make no mistake—Hamas is evil. As long as they remain in power, both Israelis and Palestinians will continue to suffer.
So, to all the activists and journalists who’ve been lying for years: Shame on you. Your double standards are exposed. Gaza wasn’t an “open-air prison” before this war, and it sure isn’t now. It’s a war zone, thanks to Hamas. Stop the lies. Stop the hypocrisy. And start standing on the side of truth. Only then can we hope for a future where both Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace.

The entire Israel is like a big ghetto. Anyone who is escaping this ghetto, is a lucky one.
Long on rethoric, short on facts.
Was there freedom of movment for Gazans pre-10/7? That defines prison, not veggie stalls.
